There were two important events in the border town of El Paso, when Trader James arrived. One was the funeral of old Peg Radcliffe, the most elaborate tribute the town had ever seen. The other important event - so far as Trader James was concerned - was the fact that he had managed to arrive in El Paso when the streets were crowded, and as he dismounted from his ancient, creaking spring wagon, the venerable bargainer glanced at the crowds with supreme satisfaction!
