The westbound stage rattled and swayed crazily along the trail toward the town of Copper Bute. The wounded driver found it almost impossible to stay on the swaying seat, gripping it desperately. He'd lost the reins, and the horses were running wild-eyed and panic-stricken. Nate could do nothing to stop the runaways, other than shout them to rein up. The people in town saw the stage approaching and knew that something must have gone wrong, crying out to one another to stand clear to avoid being trampled. There was just one individual who took action - Tonto - who raced toward the side of a building and vaulted onto Scout who stood waiting. Once they ran parallel with the runaways, Tonto leaned across and grabbed the bridle of the lead horse, who immediately began to slow to a stop.
