At least once a year the subject of buying a car comes up in the Riley household for example in 1937 Mrs Riley was heard to say to her husband, “Riley when are we gonna get a car” to which Riley replied, “next year I promise”. And then in 1941 she said, “Riley are we ever going to get a car?” to which he replied, “Next year I promise”. And now it’s 1947 and Peg said, “Riley are we ever gonna get a car…”
