This is the story of Captain Jared Jernegan and his wife Helen, who were two of the many, many thousands of men and women who carried the banners of our nation to the remotest corners of the globe in whaling ships. They charted the Arctic, they discovered the Antarctic, they brought commerce and diplomacy to Japan and the Pacific Islands. They passed along to us an inheritance which is an important chapter in our seafaring history.
