On the black island of Haiti deep in the Caribbean on a coffee plantation it is long after dark and the night is hot and sultry and quiet except for the beating of drums in the distance.

Walter Craig who is manager of the plantation tells the Dr that the French employee has killed one of the natives and now the natives are taking revenge. They believe that they can bury him and bring him back to life as a zombie slave.
