Ventriloquism is one of man's most ancient arts. It's as old as the Chinese cultures, and almost certainly it was practised by the priests, who created such seeming miracles as the speaking statues of Egypt and the Greek oracles. Down through the millennia it flourished, and when it became sheer entertainment to vaudeville, radio and TV, it reached its highest popularity. Then, suddenly, ventriloquism lost its popularity, a fact that Janis the Great is not yet prepared to face!
