Robert and Cathy Wilkins have a rather boring marriage. They're a timid couple, certainly neither is in any way extrovert. However, in 1940s London, England, their lives are changed beyond all recognition when war tears them apart. Robert joins the Navy, and Cathy joins the Wrens. It's another three years before they see each other again. Will the war have changed them? Will their marriage be strong enough to hold them together?
