Lieutenant Riley was trying to talk Nick Carter in to helping them on what he was certain was connected crimes. A gang of society thieves had just hauled $75000. Nick facetiously suggested he look for someone who was accepted in society and was a master at cracking safes when a brick crashed through the window barely missing the Lieutenant. But this was not a weapon but a means of communication for attached to it was a note which read, “My dear Lieutenant Riley, since the jobs I have pulled off lately have so completely mystified your department may I suggest that you call upon the services of your very good and able friend, Mr Nicolas Carter” It went on to say that he was varying the pattern and going on to much bigger things including murder...
