Marian Douglas arrives in Rivers Ends from New York in search of David Rodell a soldier she met a little over two years ago when she was working at  a canteen for servicemen. They spent little over a week together but that was enough to know that they wanted to be together. But David had to go back to sea and when he came back she didn't recognize him and sent him away. She remembers him as over six feet tall with dark curly hair but the David Rodell that lives in Rivers End is short with sandy hair. She's determined to find the David Rodell she remembers.
