The Prospect Hotel was right in the middle of town and Brit Ponsett could hear everything that was going on outside. It was a hot night and shutting the window was not an option. Just as he’d managed to doze off he was awoken by a gunshot but just as he got to the window the perpetrator had jumped on his horse and rode out of sight.
