Sonya Belsing wants George Valentine to come to a party. An old friend of hers Vivian Hargrove is back from Lake Tahoe and is giving a party in her 32nd floor penthouse. When George and Clair arrive there the elevator isn’t working and after climbing all the stairs there isn’t a party at all just Vivian and her brother Peter Canon. George Valentine and Clair are puzzled as to why they are there in this strange apartment covered in death masks and wacky decorations belonging to Vivian’s husband who has been dead for six months.
