Sam Walters is the basketball coach at the school, and he steels himself on his teams determination to go out there and win. But since his wife died, he has been even more determined about everything else in life too, especially seeing his daughter be victorious in her academic studies. He is unrelenting when she tries to explain that she's not the best student, and won't win the French language prize at college. Poor Sally is so terrified of letting him down, but he won't accept anything less than victory at any price.
