Bill is a lawyer and has been a family friend to Jock and Mary since they were very young and was best man at their wedding. He has been a friend to them throughout their wedded life and their trials and tribulations. Despite the torch that Bill has secretly carried for Mary he has seen the love between Jock and Mary even when they have mislaid it themselves.
