Three Wise Fools stars Margaret O’Brien as the little girl Sheila O’Monahan, Lionel Barrymore as Richard Gaunt, Lewis Stone as James Trumble and Edward Arnold as Theodore Fidley each playing the same role they acted in the 1946 movie.

many years ago when they were three young suitors, a doctor , a banker and a lawyer each was enamoured by the beautiful Lena Fairchild but she fell in love with a dark handsome stranger from Ireland. The three suitors discovered the elopers and threatened the stranger named O’Monahan so violently that he decided to curse them with a blessing that each would be successful and get what they desired.

Forty years went by and the three had become successful bachelors who hadn’t acquired one true friend and now decided to do a good deed for the community in order to ensure a little goodwill toward themselves. They decided that they would purchase a property for it’s land and give it to the university. When Lena Fairchild dies she had requested in her will that the three men take care of her young daughter Sheila but the men know nothing of bringing up children and are against the idea until they discover that she is the heiress to the property they want to buy and donate to the university.
