Amendments to the constitution of the United States, Article 19: The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States, or by any state, on account of sex, August 26th 1920. On the second Tuesday of November in the year of our Lord 1920, an event took place in the United States which many citizens were convinced would never happen. For the first time in history, women voted.
