Jane suggests to Irma that they spend Thanksgiving just with Richard and Al as they don’t want it to be spoilt by their landlady Mrs O’Reilly and Professor Kropotkin’s constant quarelling. However Mrs O’Reilly is dropping big hints about being invited and Irma has trouble keeping secrets!

Jane sends Irma out for a turkey, and to save money Irma comes back with a live bird, which she bought and calls George because the butcher, surprised by her request said, well by George!

It’s never a good idea to give a turkey a name and both Jane and Irma cannot face the idea of killing the bird and on the other hand they cant keep it in the apartment as Mrs O’Reilly is against keeping pets.
