In a dark, brooding street, the lightened windows of a rooming house stare into it. The door to the building opens before Danny knocks, and in the doorway, a woman named Gwen Victor stands. She's been leaning on the windows, waiting and watching for them, after she reported a woman from the street who has been stabbed.
