Surrealism

Broadcast: June 11, 1938
Added: Jan 28 2024

Surrealism springs from the marvelous and it has always existed. It holds allegiance to folly, to dreams, to the absurd, to the incoherent, to the hyperbolic in a word to all that is contrary to the general appearance of reality. Here Columbia Workshop presents its first surrealist broadcast. The word surrealism is known to anyone has followed the art movement of the past ten years. Surrealist pictures have intrigued and scandalized many followers of painting and surrealism has even crept into the advertising art of street cars, the drug counters and the subway. But surrealism is not confined to painting and sculpture. Here you will hear examples of surrealism in drama, music, criticism and poetry, which go beyond the limits of logic and seek to explore the unconscious and irrational part of mans mind.
