In the summer of 1896 Holmes and Watson were on the small island of Garth in the English Channel as representatives of the crown. The island was privately owned by an old lady called Martha Horne and the British Foreign office was anxious that an agreement between her and the British Crown would secure shipping routes and particularly submarine security. Alas, there were dirty deeds afoot when Holmes and Watson arrived. The old lady had died…of natural causes of course….?
