This is the story of Prince Karl Franz, who is sent to Heidelberg University to study. He falls in love with Kathie, a peasant girl, and they secretly marry. However, their happiness is short-lived when Karl is called back to his homeland to become king. He must choose between his love for Kathie and his duty to his kingdom.
