John Vincent Harden a rich American calls upon the help of Sherlock Holmes as he has received letters containing threats upon his life. He believes that someone is persecuting him and trying to send him mad. Holmes focuses on three possible suspects, Harden’s brother Steven, his secretary Miss Bates and his fiancée Alicia Edwards.
