Kate was in love with lighthouse keeper Bill Emmerson whom she met on an island where she retreated to paint. Then Kate’s twin sister Pat met Bill Emmerson and stole him away from Kate eventually marrying him. Kate learns that Bill and Pat are going to Chile so she decides to go back to the island for a break. When she arrives her sister is there and tells Kate she was suffering from a cold and decided not to go to Chile. Pat takes Kate out sailing and in a storm Pat is drowned and Kate is rescued and mistakenly took for Pat Emmerson. Motivated by her love for Bill and overcome by the temptation to be his wife Kate assumes her dead sister’s identity.
