This story takes us back to the time of King George the third of England. It is a story not of Monarchy but of an ordinary man by the name of Samuel Jones who had the extraordinary profession of state executioner. State Executioner is a psychological drama in which the principal part is taken not by the character himself but by his inner dialogue.

The story starts with him sat alone in a dismal room - the only company he has are his thoughts and if you had done what he had done you certainly would not want to spend too much time alone with them.
