Mr Brannigan is the janitor in the block where Helen Jackson is a tenant. He has known her for a long time since she used to go down to the basement and talk to Mr Brannigan. At the age of 6 Mr Brannigan taught her the lords commandment to honour thy father and thy mother. Helen had no father and then when Helen was 12 her mother began drinking and Mr Brannigan was the only person Helen could confide in. Mr Brannigan knows that her mother despite her problems is a good woman at heart and throughout Helens life he has reminded her of the lords commandment.
