David Niven reprises his role as Peter Carter in this radio adaptation of the critically acclaimed 1946 movie A Matter of Life or Death. It is a tender romance between a British pilot and an American girl who are separated by a heavenly message. 

It's 1945, shortly before dawn. Over the North Sea, a Lancaster Bomber riddled by shells and armed fire struggles through a dense fog towards the English coast. The pilot has just made radio contact with an air sea rescue station to tell them that he is going to bail, but that he has no parachute, so expects to die.
