Prior to the advent of the railroad in the south west, the stagecoach and its 4 or 6 horse team carried all passengers and mail. The mail contracts were eagerly sought after, as the stage line which carried the mail, usually obtained the lion's share of the business. The mail contract from Amarillo to Burnett is up for renewal, and as our story opens, two hard faced men are making preparations to get that contract from the line that now has it...
