Spike Jones Show, The
Madcap musician Spike Jones and his band, the City Slickers, perform spoof versions of well-known songs in this entertaining and hilarious half-hour show. The songs are personalized through the use of some very bizarre ‘instruments’, including cow-bells, kitchen utensils, bazookas and even the sounds of people burping! The band had several hits with novelty records and, when they were lined up as a summer replacement, they were instantly successful. The show is not, however, entirely about music and there are frequent appearances from comedy characters such as Doodles Weaver and Horatio G Birdbath.
