The first information of an outlaw plan to take over Frontier Town, came when Judge Knott - owner of the ranchers National Bank - was shot from ambush. He lost consciousness after wounding the escaping gunman, and was found by the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Tonto went for help, but learned that Doc Drummond had left Frontier Town and not returned. Leaving Tonto to care for the Judge, the Lone Ranger and the Sheriff followed the ambusher's trail to a camp in the hills.
