Shots came from the trail that wound down the face of a cliff, and the Lone Ranger and Tonto urged their mounts toward the brink of the precipice. They drew rein and dismounted, where far below them they could see a riderless horse, and a man lying face down at the side of the trail. It looked like he had ridden straight into an ambush, and so the two men rode down to the man to see if he was still alive. Finding that only one of the bullets had hit him, the two men took him to their camp, but it wasn't until morning that the man - a US Marshal - opened his eyes and told the Lone Ranger why he was in the area...
