During his earlier days, big Bill Jackson had been a fire-eating Sheriff in the town of Gunstock. His deadly accuracy with six-guns had earned him the nickname 'Old Calamity'. He was re-elected Sheriff year after year, despite the fact that for the past five years he had been inactive. Rheumatism and old age kept him confined to a chair. But Old Calamity was happy. He lived with his thirty-five year old son, his wife, and their thirteen year old son, Jimmy. His house was just beyond the edge of town, and he was looking forward to his son, Tom, clearing up the town - starting with the sworn affidavits he had just gotten, so that he could close down the crooked gambling game running in the town.
