The year is 778 and in a serene orchard near Cordoba in Spain the white haired Charlemagne rests from the seven years of incessant campaigns against the elusive Moorish king Marsilius but as the mighty Frankish court spends its days idling in the flowering grove in nearby Saragosa the wily Marsilius well versed in treachery holds counsel with Blancodene the wisest of the heroes of the Spanish camp.
