In the hillbilly home of the last of the local sin-eaters the old man is on his deathbed. He has resisted succumbing to death because there is no one to eat the sins he is burdened with. The mother tells her husband and son to fetch someone, anyone, she doesn't care who, to perform the ritual of a sin-eater, drinking of ale and eating bread to absorb the sins of a deceased person,so grandpa can die in peace. There is no escape for the two poor unsuspecting victims.
