A famous poem goes "London is a man's town, with power in the air. Paris is a lady's town, with flowers in her hair". It's a lovely fancy, but London is also a town full of ghosts. The wives of Henry VIII wailing in the tower, the echoes of the voices of William Pitt, Cromwell, and Edmund Burke in the Houses of Parliament, and of course, the lean figure of Sherlock Holmes, in his deer stalker hat, prowling the streets in search of a criminal. Our story today begins in the bachelor quarters of Holmes and Dr Watson on Baker Street.
