Francis Macomber and his wife Margot are in Kenya on safari. Francis sees a lion and shoots at him several times. His wife stays in the car while he and his safari manager Wilson move slowly in to the long grass toward the wounded lion to make the kill. Francis is feeling scared and as they approached the wounded animal and the animal was ready to pounce Francis turned and ran leaving Wilson to kill the lion.
Mrs Macomber saw everything from the car and ridiculed her husband for his lack of bravery.
