I don't know about you, but to me it seems a pity that haunted houses have gone out of style. Perhaps it has to do with the uncompromising utilitarianism of modern houses. After all, what self-respecting ghost would feel at home without a turret room, a sliding panel or two, and a host of shadowed, twisted corners. So to enjoy our story, lets retrace our steps back to the turn of the century, when ceilings were high and ornate, and the clanking of chains and groans from the grave were enhanced, not smothered by insulation and acoustic tiles...
