It is 6:30pm Friday September 15th 1949 in Corvelle, Texas. Jim Reeves owner of the local hardware store is waiting on his last customers at the end of the first day of a closing-out sale. He is selling up as he and his wife are planning on retiring. However as he is about to close up for the day a man hangs back and holds-up Mr Reeves with a gun and steals off with the takings. Mr Reeves is not willing to let this man steal his money and goes out of the shop after him and is critically shot. His trusted assistant Nancy begs him not to go out after the man.
