Our story opens with Joe Wood, a private detective, driving to a party with his girlfriend Mary Barnes. When the arrive at the party, they need to walk up stairwell to their friend's apartment when Joe smells something funny on the way up. It smells like gas! Joe breaks into the apartment and rescues an unconscious woman from inside. As it turns out, she's not very happy to find she's been rescued when she wakes up in hospital...
