When Marshal matt Dillon and Chester hear gunfire they are surprised to find it came from a woman. Sally Birkoff is from Pan Handle and she is reluctant to tell Matt who it was that she had been shooting at. Matt takes her back to town and feeds her and takes her to jail where Dyker is waiting to tell Matt that she had tried to kill him. Sally Birkoff claims that Dyker came to Pan Handle last fall and stole $600 from her by selling her cattle that he knew had cowpox.
