Our story begins in the town treasurer's office of High Springs, Florida. Bonnie Collins, a clerk at the office has been murdered by an intruder. Arty, who worked in an office down the corridor, heard a commotion, ran down the hall, and saw a man with his back to him, beating Bonnie over the head with a wrench. Without hesitation, Arty shouted to the man to leave Bonnie alone, and drop the cash box he had taken. The man tried to make a run for it, and so Arty shot him twice in the back...
