Three men lounged on the porch of the First Call Cafe just outside the limits of the Fort Wade military reservation. One was the barrel-chested proprietor Cart Wilkins, and his companions were nondescript characters generally known as Spud and Rib. The cafe owner scowled at them as he talked about how the cafe wasn't worth anything - other than a cover as a genuine business. They'd exhausted all other avenues of income, from stage coach robberies to illegal gambling - and now they needed to find a new income stream...
