North of India, in the shadow of the great range of the Himalayas, lies the tiny forbidden land of Shalakar. Its narrow streets are swarming with men of one hundred tongues and races. Holy men from Lhasa, fire walkers from the Ganges, beggars, jugglers and yogis from the plains of Bengali to the south. Dark pagodas hide away the idols of Gods long forgotten in the world outside. Little is known beyond its borders, such is the last land of mystery, Shalakar.
