A party of Indians, their bodies bright with warpaint, danced at the edge of a clearing that surrounded a sturdy block house and stockade. Occasionally, one of the savages would rush forward and let fly an arrow, and then dart back to shelter, but for the most part, the Indians kept back from the rifles that pointed through portholes in the block house.
