Vincent Calloway is being tried for the murder of his father Homer Calloway a crime, which he denies. The state has established that a violent hatred existed between them, a hatred that crystallized through the years as Vincent grew from a pampered only child in to an indolent wasteful man content to lavish upon him self the profits of his father’s business without once lifting so much as a finger in the firms behalf. It sounds like damming evidence but Homer’s best friend does not believe that Vincent had it in him to kill his father and hires Philip Marlowe to investigate.
