This is the story of the pine tree shilling the first coin to be minted in America. Since their arrival in the new world the settlers had depended on the odd assortment of foreign coins that found their way in to the colonies. This first coinage was one of the things that gave the colonists a sense of freedom which finally lead to the creation of an independent nation.
