The Patriot is a story of the emergence of China as a nation written by Pearl Buck who won a nobel prize for literature and also has a great deal to say about Japan.

The story tells of the people of China and Japan not only in relation to their battle over the ownership of China but in a gentler perspective of their mutual arts and virtues.
