In Shanghai central China Captain English of the Roundabout ship encountered a Dutch missionary named Reverend Walkes who told him he was on his way to Bali to distribute bibles and spread the word of the Lord. In this way he gained passage on the ship but Walkes is not all he seems, he is in fact known to cause trouble wherever he goes and becomes known as the “Flying Dutchman”. Every port he goes to denies his entry and Captain English becomes saddle with him on board the Roundabout ship stuck at sea.
