Captain Vince Kronin and his wife Helen are having a rare night out together. They head to downtown Brooklyn for dinner, and then they go to watch a movie. It's after midnight when they leave, and nearly 1am by the time they arrive home, and the Captain is beat. They have just gotten into the house, and are readying themselves for bed when the phone rings. It's the precinct. There's been a terrible homicide. A unknown man has been found shot and killed inside an automobile, so Kronin has no choice but to get a car sent to pick him up...
