Mulberry Street is in the heart of the city yet it’s very quiet there perhaps because it’s only one block long with a small park at one end and the river at the other or perhaps the quiet is due to the nature of its small unimposing array of shops and converted brownstone flats. Among the shops is the bookstore belonging to Henry Pettigrew. It’s as quiet as Henry himself and equally middle-aged.
