By the spring of 1954, swindler Philip Bentley, better known as The Purple Duke, had long disappeared from the criminal scene, after serving a final prison sentence. His successful career - spanning three decades - had enabled him to retire to a life of peace and ease. However, many took up where Bentley left off. One of these, Stanley Heldon alias Stanley Hill was high on the FBI's most wanted list. The crossing of these two men's paths, was to be part of a chain of events which finally led Stanley into their hands...
