He was a great newspaper editor, maker of Presidents, and an indomitable crusader. He proclaimed that he feared no member of mankind, and it was true! But it was equally true, although most often hidden, was the fact that he loved all mankind. He was Horace Greeley of the New York Tribune, and this is the story of how he helped to get Jefferson Davis released from prison after the Civil War.
